The Curious Raccoon Co works and plays on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat. Though acknowledging the privilege it is to work and play on these lands is important, it does not go far enough to answer the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee.
As a business that is focused on education and also land connection, it is extra important for our staff to seek out training and be deliberate in how we provide programming. Our efforts are evolving as we learn and make mistakes, but our current initiatives are focused on:
- learning how to responsibly include indigenous language into our programming as an act of decolonization
- seeking out a variety of professional development opportunities to learn how to support indigenous learners and stop perpetuating harmful "norms" or practices in education
- seeking out feedback, trying our best, and not letting the fear of not being perfect prevent us from doing anything at all
